Town Cleanup
The Town of Riga Highway Department is assisting residents outside the Village of Churchville with storm damage limb disposal. Clean-up will depend on weather conditions, but we will continue our efforts until done.
We are asking that all brush and limbs under 10” in diameter be piled (cut ends towards the road) two to three feet off edge of road so as not to impede and/or damage plows. We cannot accommodate large stumps, logs, etc. at this time. These larger items that require the use of the loader should be kept separate, and will be picked up at a later time.
If you have any questions and/or concerns, you can reach the highway department at 293-2530.
This year we will offer roadside pick-up of limbs and brush the second week of May, June, September and October By Appointment Only. Due to scheduled road maintenance, this service will not be offered in July and August. If you have any questions regarding our Roadside Pick-up or to schedule a pick-up please call the Riga Highway Department at 293-2530.

Consider this when you winterize your mailbox.
When the State, County and Town of Riga install any object, (mainly signs) in the Right-of-Way; they always use breakaway post systems. We would not do this unless forced to do so by the legal system. So when you are inspecting and repairing your mailbox system, do you really want to use any post that is any stronger than a 4x4? Check with your insurance company, if they will cover any post stronger than a 4x4.
If your
mailbox system is damaged during snow removal operations the Town Board
has authorized a 4x4 post and the standard size metal mailbox as the only
replacements, regardless of what you have installed. The highway crew will repair
any mailbox system they damaged to serviceable condition, not necessarily
a new system.
